Simac upgrades correctional and juvenile courts server park
The Federal Department of Justice has awarded a contract to IT service provider, Simac to upgrade the server park of the correctional and juvenile Courts of First Instance. Simac will be installing 88 new servers in the 27 judicial districts. The project comprises both the supply and installation of the servers. In addition, the Department of Justice will also receive three years of front line support from Simac. The contract is worth € 750,000.
The Federal Department of Justice opted for Unix servers from Sun Microsystems, in accordance with the courts’ basic infrastructure. Simac will also install an emergency power supply, guaranteeing the availability of the servers during a power failure. By awarding the renewal contract to Simac, the Department of Justice has chosen a trusted partner with whom it has worked for more than ten years.
Simac will seamlessly migrate the Courts of First Instance’s applications to the new and more powerful environment. The new servers will house a management application for the juvenile courts and the TPI application. TPI – short for Tribunaux de Première Instance – is the IT application used by the Courts of First Instance and is as such the largest judicial application. It is used, among others, for managing the roll of the correctional clerk and for all documents of the magistrates. The latter will be able to call on faster reaction times in TPI with the new infrastructure. Thanks to the new servers, in contrast to the old ones, IT managers will also be able to perform backups for these applications with greater ease and efficiency.
